Yea Haw! What a great yard sale! We topped our previous best of $600 at the Meadowsweet Street Address and made a whopping $800! Mostly made on Friday, for some crazy reason Fridays are the key yard sale days here in the Tri-Cities. But after bringing in almost $700 in on Friday, the yard sale was still worth it, even if we didn't make anything on the second day. So I was more than happy with the hundred bucks or so today.
We moved a lot of stuff. I filled the tables 3 times. There was a lot of tables out, so that's no small thing. But the greatest thing ever happened after 2 today. A yard sale shopper came and got all of our left over stuff and hauled it away! It was the greatest thing ever! I can't express how insanely happy I was when he hauled away the two big tables with decaying computer surplus covering them and all of the towers and electronics under them. He took all that junk away that has been waiting to go in the trash can for over a year. He not only took the useless computer crap, he came back with a bigger pick up and hauled off the remainder of the yard sale fodder. It was absolutely fantastic!
So I have found an extra 150 square feet of floor space in my garage and I am thrilled!
We did succumb to others enticing yard sale items. Luckily not nearly as much as we got rid of. The neighboring house was having a yard sale today, I think it helped bring people to our "second day" sale. They had a lot of furniture items for sale. We felt the urge to buy two desks, we'd been talking about desks for the kids for a while now, so seeing two REAL wood desks we gave in and got them one for $25 and one for $15. Chloe was so happy when we told her we got a desk. She's using it right now to write a thank you note to Greg for some stuffed animals he gave her. I got some nice pilsners from Ryan and Cindy and a ton more very handy things from Greg. A humidifier, a wireless keyboard/mouse for Ken's computer, a mouse pad, a coffee press, and a few other things came home with us. Thank you guys!
That was a fun, profitable, junk expelling and exhausting yard sale. Thank you so much Evan for letting us take over your living room and yard, and thank you everyone for adding lots of great junk to the sale.

Still Sanding
Well it's almost a day late but I'm just about done sanding. I've got 4 more bed posts to go. Needless to say my joints in my hands and arms and back wanted to throw in the towel a few days ago. I hope it all gets finished in time. I am working my arse off. I had a few distractions today... Chloe had an assessment test at her school to place her in a kindergarten class. I'm not sure if they do this to fit kids that are at the same speed together or if they want to make sure the class is equally balanced with dopes and smarty pants. She did well, knew her name first and last could spell it. Knew what month she was born in. She could name all her shapes and colors, say the alphabet an counted to 15.
She was really worried about it this morning, she was all nervous for the "test" and psyched herself out of a few things like counting.
I'll get a letter in a few days telling me about her schedule and when she'll catch the bus.
After collecting the kids, who were at Edna's house this morning while Chloe had her testing, we came home had lunch and I sanded for 2 hours. I cleaned the garage out in preparation for the painting that will start tonight... though I've just checked out some of the primer coat and the drips on the edges are going to kill me, looks like more sanding :P
We made a trip to my Grandma Allaway's house in Kennewick and picked up two clothing racks to use on fri/sat. They should help get the clothes out where people can see them. I hope this goes well the next few days, luckily I don't have anything planned untill gymnastics and set up tomorrow night. I should be able to get the beds painted up by then, at least I hope so. I'll probalby be painting all night.

Inch of Dust
"Get Up Mom" said Nic this morning as he peered at me from the side of my bed. We had slept in a bit and Max was due to arrive at any moment. All the kids were a bit on the malbehaved side of things and were a little loud. I think it was because we skipped nap time yesterday and they were all tired still. Max knocked at the door and Nic ran to meet him, "YEA! MAX!" he cheered. Marc settled Max in and headed out the door for work. Kenny sat down and the computer and started what appeared to be working. He was staying home this morning to accompany us to the movie theater to see the free summer showing of Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the WereRabbit.
The movie was cute and funny and everyone was having a good time, wait... whats that I hear. Sniveling?! Sobbing?! Crying?! Max was absolutely distraught. Apparantly he has the DVD at home and the movie reminded him that he had this particular movie and that he shouldn't be in the movie theater with us watching it, rather he should be at home with his mommy and daddy watching it. I quickly tried to get his mind of things and asked him what he wanted for lunch. He wasn't taking the bait at first... "Do you want a grilled cheese sandwich like yesterday" I asked, he continued to sob and seemed confused. "When we get home we're going to have lunch" I said, "would you like a ham sandwich?" He looked at me and said, "no" in his typical whiney Max voice. I said, "hmmm maybe I could make you a big peanut butter sandwich!" knowing that he absoutely abhores peanut butter. He definately heard this and quickly insisted on a cheese sandwich instead. I agreed and said, "okay after the movie, we'll go home and have grilled cheese." This seemed to console him and he continued to watch the movie quietly untill the end.
After lunch I put everyone in bed for quiet time and went out to the garage to continue sanding the toddler beds. I'm on my second one and today. With the movie, I'm much further behind than where I want to be. So far, I've only got the top of the rails sanded. Luckly, I don't have any thing scheduled tonight to occupy my time. Keep your fingers crossed that I can at least finish sanding the beds tonight... I really need to paint them tomorrow so that they're ready to be sold on friday. Though I am considering taking the paint back and selling the beds as unfinished. That way people can paint/stain them what they want to and I don't have to do the work.
My Garage is coved in dust. Dust, dust, everywhere. On the floor and in my hair :)
I've got quite a bit more to sand, so it's not going to end anytime soon. I can't wait for these beds to be sold and the large entertainment center that's in my garage. I really, really want to use that space. For parking my car and for working on projects I want and need for my own house.

Sand 1 Toddler Bed
I am amazing!!! Max was dropped off for the day. I get him for two weeks while his day care center is on "vacation". I made everyone breakfast and helped them get started playing some games and then I went to the garage and began to dissassemble one of the toddler beds that I have and sand it smooth. I worked in 20 minute increments with breaks to check on/play with the kids. I made yummy grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch, mmm tasty. I finished sanding the bed by 4:00, cleaned up, then got all the kids ready to go and piled them in the car so we could drop chloe off at the gymnasium.
I'm so happy I got that done, it was a lot of work.

Ainsley "Beaver" Schmidt
*From Ainsley's Perspective
"oh, I'm so bored. I wish I didn't have to go to bed so early. I could stay up really really late. Maybe I could sing a song.
Take me out to the ball game
take me out to the ball
Buy me some crackers and peanut jacks
I want you to take me back
So... root, root, root... home.. team...
1, 2, 3 strikes your out
at the ball... game.
I wonder what that wood tastes like on the edge of my bed."
Ainsley scraped her teeth against the wood on her bed rail taking off a large mouth full of pine. Her saliva flooded her mouth trying to breakdown the grainy foreign object that she had consumed. Instantly the bitter sweet taste of the stained wood was in her mouth. It wasn't all that unpleasant. After a few minutes Ainsley spat the wad of wet wood onto the floor.
She was extreamly bored so she once again went to scrape her teeth against the bed rail. This time her tonge took a much more inquisitive feel at the wood. It had a texture like none she ever felt before. On the bed, the wood was hard and solid. Once it was ripped off into her mouth the grains separated and became stiff bristles in her mouth. As they soaked up her saliva, they became softer and softer with every second of the evaluation. Ainsley spat the soaked bristle ball out and thought to herself, "I wonder if I could bite all the way around my bed. It might look pretty."
She took some pride in the ability to tear apart something so solid with her little teeth.
*******
What is it about gnawing on furniture that entices kids? I remember doing this when I was 4/5 as well. The only conclusion I can draw is that there must be beaver somewhere in my family line. I wouln't doubt it, my Allaway family has roots in Arkansas.
I'm refinishing these gnawed upon beds today, I can't believe how deep some of the bites are.

Soreness All Over!
Work all afternoon on Yard Sale organization. There is a tremendous amount of crap just waiting for bargain hunters to go crazy wading through it. My legs are throbbing, my arms and hands are sore, my body is just exhausted. Now I get to attemp to make dinner... and the pans I need are dirty. So sleepy, need rest! Family needs food, I need to make food for them. I need to try and make food.
My Mom's Big 5 - O
So yesterday we had a birthday bash for my mom's 50th birthday. It started about 3:00 here at the house. The kids colored pictures for her and my brother and I gave her cards and roses. We had some cake and ice cream and I beat her at 9 ball. We watched the kids and Jared play Dance Dance Revolution.
At 6:00 we took the kids to my sister-in-laws house to be watched while my brother and his wife and Kenny and I took our mom out to a dance party at Jack sons sports bar. Live music was supposed to start at 8:00pm but because of technical difficulties the music didn't start untill 9:00. The band was pretty good for a Tri-Cities band. A few of my mom's girl friends from work came to the party and we all (except for Jared and Ken, the DD's) Drank and Danced and had a blast. I hope my mom had a good time because I know I did. Ken and Joan showed up late and sat and drank with us and wished my mom a happy birthday and bought me a shot of tequilla. My brother took my mom home at 11:30 and Kenny and I left shortly after that. We drove all the way to Kennewick to get the kids from my sister-in-law. She was on a tow truck run and Great Grandma Wells was there watching the kids. I felt imesely guilty that we had stayed out later than we anticipated but with the band starting an hour late we really were short on entertainment time as it was, with a 6.00 cover charge I wanted to stay later :P Yesterday was the hardest time I've had in a long time finding a sitter for. Lori is in UT and my MIL was in Portland. And my back-ups were all busy as well.
It was at least an hour from the time we left Jacksons to the time we got home. We stayed up and watched TV for a little bit and then went to bed around 1:30. I acutually feel great, woke up at 7:30 ready to do some work for the yard sale.
