My Battle Against Parents Who Buy Bratz

Well most of you know that I'm a pretty liberal, tree hugging, strawhouse building, homebirth kinda gal and my general opinion is that most things are fine as long as they don't injure my person in anyway. I however am absolutely disturbed by the recent superstardom of the BRATZ line of toys, clothing and misc. merchandise. Most any observant parent can see how they closely resemble the average LA hooker with their layers of makeup obvious plastic surgery and little if any clothing good enough for your basic street walker.

While most angry parents would take debate with the product manufacturer my deal is with the parents who entertain having these toys in their home. When you see the slutty BRATZ girlZ on the backpack why didn't you just walk by it! Really! please look at these products think about the implications of your daughter owning one, how will it influence her opinion on how girls should look and behave. How can you affectively tell your daughter that the belly button ring and "too" low low rise pants are a no no when you've been buying her toys and other merchandise that promotes this 'pregnant by 13' appearance and behavior.

I have the same beef with Myscene Barbie... I thought we were supposed to be promoting intelligent, intellectual, powerful women, not hoping one day our daughters would strive to be gangsta bitches or prostitutes.

Big HD TV = Super Sweet Dr WHO Viewing

My TV came in yesterday. We've only been TIVOing shows at medium quality and on my old TV the difference was unnoticeable but the new TV definitely shows all the artifacts and pixelates the images when those medium quality episodes are watched. So, we didn't really have any "good" shows to watch until Kenny brought home the first and second episode of the first season of the new Dr. Who. Our friend Matt is in town and we wanted him to see the new Dr. Who, from the beginning of course.

Wow!! my cheap big TV really has nice picture. (At least I think so, compared to my old crappy TV) Dr. Who was super sharp, it looked great. My screen is so much bigger/brighter now that I had to make myself blink a few times. It's the same great feeling I get when I play Guild Wars for too long.

Luckily I mowed the lawn yesterday, I don't think that too much work will be done for awhile and I better study for my class a bit this morning before MY shows are on.

KeHS Class of 97'

This weekend was our 10-yr reunion. A good friend of ours that we stayed in contact with, Skylar and his family, stayed with us for the festivities and we spent a lot of time with Matt and Rachel as well. Not so many of our closest friends made appearances, but a few did and it was worth the $40 to spend some time with them. I even made new friends, I think, with some people who were kind-of on the fringe of my circle of friends during high school. So Skylar and Kenny and I were really the only people from our "group" that made it. Jason Sylling, Trish Bisterfelt, Nathan Hindman, Pat Hunt, Petra Milliam, Richard Vinnedge, Donald Swart and Chris Mobley were all no shows, most with good excuses, but in 10-yrs I'll be bugging them again. A few floating friends that we shared with other groups made it like Matt Jensen, Ed Armstrong and Rachel Turner to name a few. I see Rachel pretty frequently still, but it was very good to see "Chewy" who I haven't seen in a decade.

The food was good, the music was bad (and loud) it was like prom all over again.

I really hate myspace but it has given me the sad ability to contact some of these guys I've not spoken with in a decade. I hope we all roll over to facebook in the next few years or something a little bit cleaner looking or at least something less ugly than myspace. Here's to hopeing some people realize how hideous those sites are.

All in all it was a good reunion, I think the coordinators did a great job, I wish more of my classmates would keep intouch with the POC so they could find out when reunions are.
