Maylyn and Our Biggest Loser

So, in chatting with Maylyn about fun ways to keep the "project transformation" interesting and fun, we came up with holding our own biggest loser contest. It's a bit trickier than I thought it would be coming up with rules for the challenge since there are so many variables to individual weight loss. I've ended up deciding that percentage of weight lost will be the deciding factor for the winner, this is how all of the contests that have already been done do it. Though because women do carry/lose weight differently than men there will be two separate categories one for each sex.

If anyone has a genius idea about a more fair way to do it let me know before the weekend because I plan to have it all laid out by then.

I've also suggested that Maylyn start adding diet changes to the activity she's been doing. We've discussed it before but since it's difficult to change lots of habits at the same time we're adding little changes over a long period of time. I'm so proud of everything she's accomplished already. Getting out and trying to move everyday is hard, especially if you don't "have to".

If anyone would like to join us online for the biggest loser contest I'll have rules posted at Maylyn's site this weekend hopefully

"We Don't Want Healthy Food"

So, my brother and sister-in-law came down for a visit. They're vegan so I went out to grab a few vegan friendly snacks. As I was picking up some bags of chips in the naturals section of Yokes, some kids,(about 7 and 9) came by and were browsing the chip section. Their mom finally caught up with them looked at the chips and then said, "These are healthy chips, we don't want these" and then took her family off to the transfat section.

I don't even know if she realized what she said to her kids. Forever the words, "We don't want healthy foods" will be imprinted in their little brains.

She could've said, "we're in the wrong section" or simply, "not these chips". Anyway, I thought it was such an odd phrase for her to say. I wonder how many other parents unravel all the work the teachers do teaching them how to eat right. All those obese children out there and mom's saying, "we don't want THOSE chips, here have a twinkie"

You know, the "healthy chip" section is actually quite large anymore and they are really quite good, I was looking at Cheeto brand cheetos in the health food section. I still refrain from buying snack food unless I have guests, because, lets face it, it doesn't matter what the serving size is... chips disappear.
