Exciting Things for Camp Fire Kids

We had a great time with our Arbor Day celebration. Not only did the kids get to participate fully on Arbor Day by planting a tree. They were able to witness how people work together to make our community a better place. Matt Watkins, City of Pasco Mayor Pro-tem came and helped and we had a lot of help from the City Parks Facilities manager, Dan Dotta. I was told that this is the last step for our city to become a Tree City USA! It was great for the kids to be a part of such an important community event. We really appreciate the support and help we got from the City of Pasco. It was a wonderful event that the kids will remember for years to come.

The BBQ we had afterwards was great as well. The kids earned the money for the BBQ by selling over 2,000.00 worth of candy bars! The proceeds went to support our CampFire USA council and all of the wonderful things they do. The kiddo's did a great job for their first candy sale ever. Everyone played with bubbles and played on the park toys and enjoyed all the hot dogs and burgers they could eat. It was a fantastic day!

Finished

So, last night Kenny turned made his final thread post to his last class at Regis University. His capstone project was a web based program to help camp fire leaders and members keep track of lessons they need to earn emblems. Kids (and parents) can log in and see what they have and what they still need to earn specific trail emblems and if they missed a meeting they can get information they need to make up the meeting. It's a handy little program for those that have ever needed to keep track of stuff like this and being simple to use and read will let the kids be able to understand what they need to do to catch up with the rest of the group.

I'm so proud of Kenny. It's been a LONG road to get here. Congratulations!!!

Word Got Out

Alright, it's no secret that my life has been consumed with retaining wall construction :)

Saturday we spent the day at the Tenney's house assisting them to build a retaining wall between their yard and their neighbors yard. The old timber wall had finally deteriorated after 25-30 years and soil was begining to spill over onto the neighbors property. I assume that since the wall was on the neighbors side of the fenceline that the neighbors were responsible for at least half of the wall but Nate's a nice guy and ended up doing the whole wall himself (I was surprised that the neighbors didn't even volunteer to help. If you can't tell they rubbed me the wrong way this weekend.) Anyway as you can see from the pictures we finished the wall in 1 day.
