What Is This "Land Line" You Speak Of?

Well, we did it.  We now have a physical connection to the internet.  We thought we were rid of nasty cables and cords, we were wrong. For the sake of saving money and increasing speed, we now have a DSL/phone package from Qwest.  It has been about 5 years since we have owned a land line.  It kinda feels like a step back, but with the move from tivo to the mac mini we needed faster, more reliable speeds to the internet.  That way, when we're streaming Pushing Daisies, we can watch the whole show without buffering interruption.  It also made sense to add phone service to always have an emergency phone available. Chloe is 8 and I'm leaving her at home while I run to drop Ainsley or Nic off at activities now, a home phone is essential.

I've not mentioned our tivo abandonment before.  It was extremely tough to get off the tivo fanboy wagon.  I love tivo dearly.  But the time has come to move on.  We noticed that we were watching most of our television content off the internet anyway, Hulu... Joost... "other means".  And knowing we could see HD quality local stuff over the air, it was time to take the next step and cancel our $60 dish network package and move to free TV.  I have to say TV has never been so beautiful.  PBS cartoons come in crystal clear over the air (which the Mac records for us) and John Stewart looks great streaming off of Hulu.  It's been a good move.

Tivo is not completely forgotten.  He will be moved to our bedroom where the Mac will forward shows to him so that we can watch our recorded content upstairs.
