Had my meeting with the campfire leader here at my house yesterday. I met my new friend Sheri, who is going to be co leader of the local Little Stars/STARflights group with me. I learned a bit about the routine of a campfire meeting, about ways the kids can earn emblems to put on their vests and we discussed places we could meet. Though nothing was set down yet. There is a Camp Fire Leadership meeting in September which Sheri and I plan on going to. We'll have a better idea of what it all entails after that. We were left project books for our grade level and we'll be going through those and planning our classes for next year. The cost isn't too bad, 15.00 for a year membership and 12.50 for the vests.
Then after all that gets started, the club leaders are responsible for purchasing/presenting emblems, it will be about one emblem per month, and then after talking about how we purchase craft/science supplies as well, we thought about having a $2.50 a month dues. Opportunities are there for the club to earn money with the candy sale in february and since it is a non profit club we can solicit money from local companies as well as get discounts to events.
Anyway the trip was all business, talking about money and background checks and forms and reading about the order of meetings. It will be fun, but there is this business side to things that accompany clubs.
