Orientation

Chloe's orientation was last night... They split us up. They put parents and siblings in one room in a meeting with the principle and kindergarten teachers discussing kindergarten readyness. The incomming kindergarteners went to visit the class room and see what "school" was going to be like. Maya Angelou is a very nice, new school. It's quite large and very well equiped. It's right in the center of a huge suburban sprawl in North Pasco. Right now enrollment for kindergarten is at 120 students.... which if enrollment closed tomorrow it would be well under 25 students per classroom. But come August they do expect to be bussing late enrollment kids to other schools in the district. Chloe is in the bussing area for Maya Angelou, but we're just about 8 blocks away from Ruth Livingston. It may be too far away for a kindergartener to walk alone, but when she's 8-10 it would be well within her capabilities. Assuming we're still in this house when she's in 4th grade, it would make more sense for us to send her to Livingston. But then her neighbor friend is going to Angelou and our other neighbor is a teachers aid there. So I suppose I'm mostly leaning towards keeping her at Angelou.

They had pictures of the Band members on the wall. When I was in Elementary school we could only play a string instrument in the orchestra... to have Chloe in band would be cool. Of course, she may be "too cool" for band :)I suppose I'll have to deal with that when the time comes. They actually have a cafeteria at Angelou, they don't have to eat in the classrooms like we did growing up. And there is a nice cafetorium, A beautiful library and a large computer lab next to the kindergarten classrooms. It really is a nice school.

Chloe had a great time. "They have a fish there, and a gerbil. But you can't touch the gerbil."
